Pokémon Base Set Charizard 1st Edition (Italian)

An undisputed cornerstone of Pokémon collecting, the Base Set Charizard 1st Edition stands as the era-defining trophy card of the TCG’s formative years. This example is the Italian-language printing from the first European wave released by Wizards of the Coast (1999/2000), a variant long recognized for materially lower survival in top condition than its English counterpart, and consequently pursued by advanced collectors building truly complete, language-specific Base Set runs.

Encapsulated by Beckett as BGS 9.5 GEM MINT, the card presents a level of preservation that is exceptionally difficult to encounter on a vintage holographic of this age, particularly within Italian distribution. The subgrades—highlighted by 9.5 centering, corners, and edges with a 9.0 surface—place it squarely in museum-grade territory while retaining the original visual impact that made Mitsuhiro Arita’s Charizard artwork a cultural icon. For collectors and investment-aware buyers, high-grade Italian 1st Edition Charizard has become a scarce, globally traded benchmark piece—equally suited to anchoring a long-term “grail” portfolio position or completing the coveted Italian 1st Edition trio alongside Blastoise and Venusaur.
