The Macallan 25 Years Anniversary Malt “Red Box”
25 Year Old – Sherry & Bourbon Oak, Numbered
The Macallan 25 Years Anniversary Malt “Red Box” was conceived as a commemorative release that encapsulates the distillery’s long-standing pursuit of precision—an expression built around patience, cask selection, and the stylistic signature that has made The Macallan a benchmark in single malt collecting. Matured for a quarter of a century in a combination of European oak ex-sherry and American oak ex-bourbon casks, it represents the intersection of two maturation traditions: the depth and dried-fruit structure associated with sherry-seasoned wood, and the lifted vanilla and gentle sweetness drawn from bourbon oak.
In the glass it presents a deep, warm amber tone. The aromatic profile is layered and composed—candied orange peel, dried fig, and toasted almond, followed by bourbon-vanilla nuance and a faint saffron-like spice, then evolving toward cedar, tonka bean, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the whisky keeps an elegant, measured structure: acacia honey, caramelised pear, and red berries are framed by milk chocolate and soft baking spices, leading into a long, persistent finish with a smoky oak echo and a touch of sweet tobacco.
Beyond the liquid, the “Red Box” presentation—red casework with gold-embossed celebratory detailing—positions this bottling firmly within museum-grade modern Macallan memorabilia. With individually numbered bottles and a purpose-built case, it is engineered for provenance-led ownership, display, and long-term stewardship, aligning with the category’s investment-aware collecting culture where condition, completeness, and traceability are central to value retention.
